Click here…. An Advent Activity Book: From KATHY SILL

Late last year I was made aware of children who appear to come from Christian homes who never go to church. When looking at Christmas lights, they did not know what a nativity scene was nor the significance of the birth of Jesus. The attached PDF is an Advent workbook that was inspired as a way to introduce the children and young teens to Jesus in a non-threatening and engaging manner. The book has 3 sections:

Section 1 (pages 2-7): The Advent wreath section includes a short description of the wreath and the symbolism of each candle. Each week until Christmas a candle is lit and we focus on a specific word as we wait for the birth of our Savior. Instructions and templates are included to use as you create your own advent wreath using toilet paper rolls and paper. Lighting the candle is easy as you simply lift the yellow flame and the candle is lit without any danger from fire.

Section 2 (pages 8-11): Coloring pages for each week.

Angel

Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus

Wise men bringing gifts

Connect the dots picture

Section 3 (pages 12-14 with answers starting on page 15): Advent puzzles:

Unscramble the words in the Advent scripture

Word Search

Matching

Unscramble Christmas song names

My hope is that as the workbook is shared with families and friends it will introduce / reintroduce people to Jesus . There is no age limit for the activities.

Presenting Willie Drye - discussing his recently updated book… “The Storm of the Century: The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935” (Click Here for details)

The 1935 Hurricane was of great significance to our church as so many members of the church died in the storm, including the church’s young pastor, Rev. Robert Emmanuel Carlson and his wife Maud.  Alma Pinder Dalton and Norm Parker are the only living survivors of the 1935 storm.

April 12 2020 - Easter Sunday

Message from Pastor Bob: Thank you for keeping the tradition of decorating the cross alive this year. The cross was rugged and rough and dreadful prior to the death and resurrection of Jesus. Following the resurrection it became a symbol of love, hope and beauty. He is alive. Have a blessed day.

A cross will be at the front door of the church sanctuary beginning at 10 am Saturday, April 11.  It will be on the highway side of the church Easter Sunday, April 12. We hope you will drive by and add flowers or greens to our cross. Let’s not let the corona virus take all our Easter away!  Hopefully we will fill this cross with beautiful blossoms and greenery to bring some cheer to us all.

This year, let’s make our cross look more beautiful than ever before.

Death of Walter Brestler

My dear friends.

We have received very sad news about our friend Walter.  He passed away from a second stroke.   He's been such an integral part of our glass group for many years.

He did a lot of work on things no one else wanted to tackle.   He fiinished the last of the light fixtures when I was unable to in 2011.  He worked patiently and
diligently on the 3-D stars on the ships wheels.   He was always there when we were doing something challenging.  He installed  our last window, the Alligator reef light house.  His wife Alice was a great contributor to our group too.   We will miss them terribly.   They will be together now.

Love you all.

Thank you to the members of the church who distributed palm branches Palm Sunday morning!  What a beautiful gesture while we are isolated during the coronavirus crisis.

Sue Miller

Dear Christian Friends,
I thought I would share some of my ideas with you. If you are fortunate to be isolated with your spouse, cherish every moment together and find things to do together. Rejoice.

Families are both wonderful and challenging. If you are blessed with one, be patient and enjoy while you can. Family is always changing. If you have children, love them deeply, but let them see the love you share with God and your spouse. As it should be, children pass through your life on their way to making their own. You always love them deeply, but as adults let them make their own decisions and mistakes. God is with them just as He is with you.

No children? No spouse? You do have a church family. Everyone needs someone. Friends can be great and an extended family. Everyone rejoice in what you do  have, live for today.  Aren’t memories great!
